Fire Prevention Week
(Oct 5 -9)
On October 6th, 2009 Peachland Fire and Rescue Service came to Peachland Elementary School to talk to our staff and students about fire safety.
To assist with the promotion and awareness of "Fire Prevention Week", Peachland Elementary School students were invited to develop and practice a home escape plan with their families. Fire Chief Topham discussed how students can avoid the several different types of burns that can happen within their household and how they can avoid this type of injury.
Students (K-3) were given the opportunity to enter a draw to become the "Fire Chief for a Day". This student was picked up from home and driven to and from Peachland Elementary School in the Peachland Fire Truck. The "Fire Chief for the Day" student and Fire Chief Grant Topham reviewed Peachland Elementary's Safety plan and equipment on site. We then had a Fire Drill and afterwards met in the gymnasium for an assembly to discuss what went well and how we can ensure we are safe at all times
The Peachland Fire Department donated one Peachland Fire Rescue Hoodie to each classroom. For students to be eligible to win the hoodie, they had to complete a Family Alarm Checklist form with their parents and return it to the school.
Thank you to Fire Chief Topham, Fire Safety Officer Cori and Captain Ross for joining us today and reminding us to always be prepared! Oh... and we must not to forget to thank SPARKY!
