On October 27, 2009 our school participated in DEAR (Drop Everything and Read )
in celebration of National School Library Day.  Teachers read a story to another
class and then students read quietly on their own for a total of twenty minutes.
You could hear a pin drop!

Here are a few comments from the kids about our DEAR event:

Morgan (Grade 6):  "Ms. Kanda told us that if we read more picture books, then we will be able to read ANYTHING!"
Ally      (Grade 6):  "Ms. Kanda also said that if you just look at the pictures of a book first, then you will understand the whole story..."

I asked the Kindergarten class how they liked Mrs. Brown reading to them and they responded: "Great - they loved the haunted house book!)

Madison and Emily (Grade 5) both shared that they had fun hearing Ms. Reay read "Green Eggs and Ham" because they remembered reading it many times when they were young.  Also, Ms. Reay encouraged them to try something new - who knows, you might like it!
